Kim ‘Amar’ returns to Pyongyang after Russia visit

Senior North Korean officials and civilians were present at the railway station to welcome Kim, who “eagerly awaited the day he would return home in good health”.

As Kim’s train arrived, it was greeted with “cheers of hurray”, KCNA said.

It said Kim waved and reviewed the military guard of honour.

Both North Korea and Russia are under global sanctions – Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine, Pyongyang for its nuclear weapons tests.

Experts say Russia is eager to use North Korea’s stockpile of artillery shells in Ukraine, while Pyongyang wants help upgrading satellite technology and its Soviet-era military equipment.
