Kremlin says world needs to know truth about Nord Stream blasts

Investigators in Sweden and Denmark – in whose exclusive economic zones the explosions took place – have said the rupture was the result of sabotage, but have not said who they believe was responsible.

President Vladimir Putin has accused “Anglo-Saxon” powers of blowing up the Nord Stream pipelines, a project designed by the Kremlin to prevent Ukraine from exporting its gas directly to Germany and further to Europe.

Russian officials and politicians lined up demanding answers following the Hersh blog.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Thursday that there would be consequences for the United States. Ryabkov also said that the report by American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh was not a surprise to Russia.

Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said on Thursday that the report should form the basis of an international investigation.

“The published facts should form the basis of an international investigation that will bring Biden and his allies to justice,” Volodin said.

He also said that the United States should “compensate the countries affected by the terrorist attack”.

Russia’s foreign ministry said on Wednesday that the United States had questions to answer over its role in last year’s explosions at the undersea Nord Stream gas pipelines.
