AL shared three seats with JSD, two with Bangladesh Workers Party and one seat with JP. But the alliance leaders were pushing for AL to withdraw independent candidates who are ruling party people from these constituencies. But AL did not budge.
The AL decision frightened these leaders as many of them feared losing their seats in the elections.
Apart from these candidates who contested the elections by boat, all three parties fielded other candidates under their party symbols. 66 candidates from JSD, 26 from Workers Party and 13 from JP contested the elections. None of them could win the election.
Five years ago, in the eleventh general election, a coalition of 14 parties had contested 10 seats and won six of them. No top leader was defeated.
