After the final, much of the blame was placed on the Liverpool fans by the French Interior Minister, Gerald Darmanin, but he admitted that the police had been tipped off by several hundred local “criminals” who caused the trouble.
Liverpool supporters group ‘Spirit of Shankly’ said the report had “innoculated” fans of the Premier League club.
“The blame game began even before the ball was kicked, and in the immediate aftermath those allegedly in charge – UEFA and the officials – did not hesitate to point the finger at the supporters,” the group said in a statement.
