A major accident involving Khulna-bound Simanta Express train was averted as locals foiled a sabotage attempt in Domar upazila of Nilphamari district on Wednesday night.
The incident took place at around 10 pm in Dola area of Prodhanpara of Bagdokara village of Boragari union of Domar.
When the miscreants were opening the fish plate of the railway line, the local people came to the spot after hearing the sound of the railway iron plate being opened.
Local people said that they heard the sound of the railway iron plate opening and reached the spot. He saw a group of miscreants opening the fishplate clip. The miscreants ran away when the local people chased them.
Rajeshwar Roy, a resident of Bagdokara village, said that at that time Simanta Express train going from Chilhati to Khulna was coming. About 300-400 people were present on the spot. As they were giving various signals, the locomaster stopped the train, thereby averting a major accident.
Boragari Union Council President Aminul Islam said the miscreants fled after being chased by local people. Later, about 72 fish plates were recovered from a sack left by the miscreants. At that time, Khulna bound Simanta Express train was coming and the local people gave signal and were successful in stopping the train.
