Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has formally inaugurated Hatirjheel-Begunbari integrated project yesterday. This project was initiated by the military backed interim government.
It was an integrated project to connect east and west portion of the country. Hatirjheel Lake is connected to Gulshan Lake to improve drainage system. Service road, walkway, footpath, bridges on the lake and overpasses are built as part of the project. It will also be a recreation spot for city dwellers.
Residents of Rampura, Badda, Ulan, Modhubagh, Moghbazar, Gulshan, and Tejgaon will be able to move easily now. Experts are hoping that this project will ease the traffic congestion in the capital.
Some part of the project work is yet to be completed. Construction of theater, park, garden and U loop at Rampura end is not finished yet.
Illegal BGMEA building which is blocking drainage at Karwan Bazar end is not demolished yet.
Dhaka WASA, Rajuk and Bangladesh army jointly implemented the project.
