Truck drivers claimed that even though half the day is spent collecting fuel, they still do not get all they need. The influx of vehicles due to the crisis has created additional pressure on both the depots and the fuel stations in the city.
Meghna Petroleum Corporation, based in Godnel, Siddhirganj, supplied 5,000 liters of octane and 5,000 liters of diesel to the Chashara provincial filling station in the city on Sunday evening. The octane in this fuel ran out by Monday afternoon. According to pump employee Manik, when they went to Meghna depot on Monday afternoon to get more fuel, they were given only 9,000 liters of diesel without octane.
Bidyut Banerjee, cashier at Signboard Pump in Siddhirganj, said he was waiting in the queue since morning to get fuel from Meghna depot till afternoon.
“Our requirement was two truckloads of fuel, but we got 9,000 liters of diesel and 550 liters of octane,” he told Prothom Alo.
He said that half of this amount of fuel will be exhausted quickly.
