Malaysia expels two boats carrying around 300 Myanmar migrants

The Rohingya face persecution in their predominantly Buddhist homeland of Myanmar, with many fleeing to refugee camps in wealthier, Muslim-majority Malaysia or Bangladesh.

They often endure months of harrowing sea journeys to reach Malaysia by boat or enter the country through its porous border with Thailand.

If caught, they are often sent to detention centers, which human rights groups say are usually overcrowded and dirty.
