According to the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), officers arrested Mamun from the immigration detention cell following intelligence reports alleging his involvement with an extremist organisation.
The police also confiscated his passport, mobile phone and other personal belongings.
The investigating officer, CTTC Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Matiur Rahman Mollah, produced Mamun in the court on Monday and showed him arrested under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and sought seven-day remand.
In the remand application, the investigating officer said that the authorities need to examine Mamun’s mobile phone and other digital devices.
The investigators also interrogated him about his communications through Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal and Instagram, his possible associates, his source of funds, the real purpose of his trip abroad and whether he had planned any sabotage.
Meanwhile, the defense sought cancellation of the remand request and applied for bail.
