Many leaders from many parties and groups will join NCP today

Many leaders and activists of Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), United People’s Bangladesh (UP Bangladesh) and anti-discrimination student movement are set to join the National Citizen Party (NCP).

A press conference has been scheduled at the NCP’s temporary central office in Banglamotor, Dhaka at 1:30 pm today, Sunday, to mark the occasion.

Ali Ahsan Junaid and Rafe Salman Rifat—prominent organizers of UP Bangladesh and former president of Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir—will join the NCP, a senior NCP policymaker and member of parliament told Prothom Alo on condition of anonymity. Joint General Secretary of AB Party Sani Abdul Haq will also attend.

Besides, leaders and activists of various units of the anti-discrimination student movement – ​​including its president Rifat Rashid, chief coordinator Haseeb Al Islam, office secretary Shahadat Hussain, legal cell secretary Mahfouz and Kushtia University unit convenor SM Sweet – are joining the NCP and its affiliated bodies today.

According to a message from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Rifat Rashid will join the ethnic Juboshokhti, Haseeb Al Islam will join the ethnic students Shokhti, and Shahadat Hussain and SM Sweet will join the Central Committee of the NCP.

The NCP leader further said that many people are joining today, more people are expected to join in phases.

When contacted, NCP joint convenor Monira Sharmin said, “NCP aims to become a major party. To achieve this it will have to accommodate many people. The party’s doors are open to those who support Bangladesh-oriented politics and reforms.”
