Doctors, University academics, journalists engineers were among them. Most of them were abducted from their residence. Later their dead bodies were found at Rayerbazar, Mirpur.
It was an attempt to weaken the newborn nation intellectually. Prominent intellectuals likeProf Muniruzzaman, Guha Thakurta, Dr Alim Chowdhury, Shahidullah Kaiser, Prof Muneir Chowdhury, Dr Fazle Rabbi, Prof GC Dev, JC Sirajuddin Hossain, Prof Santosh Bhattacharya and Mofazzal Haider Chowdhury were among them.
A memorial has been built at Rayerbazar in their respect. Peoples from all walks of life place wreath there in this day to pay respect.
