In addition to the measles cases, the hospital had 17 AIDS patients, one of diarrhea, eight of smallpox, one of rabies, eight of tetanus, two of black fever, one of malaria and one of anthrax. A patient with unusual lesions was also admitted there.
Every child admitted to the hospital is accompanied by more than one parent. They eat food in the hospital premises and sleep there at night.
Hospital staff allege that many parents do not show enough concern for maintaining cleanliness. Some people do not use trash cans and instead leave trash next to the bed wherever is convenient.
This year, about 1,196 patients with measles symptoms sought hospital treatment. Of those, 807 required admission.
Of those admitted, measles was confirmed in 259 cases. A total of 32 patients with measles symptoms have died in this hospital.
During the visit yesterday on Monday, the environment appeared cleaner than the previous day. The superintendent said, “I am trying to keep the hospital clean. However, I need everyone’s cooperation.”
