The increased spread of false and sensationalized information can lead to panic, erode public trust and compromise security measures. Starting with the observation, a roundtable on ‘Role of Media in National Security’ was organized by the Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) at The Westin in the capital Dhaka. The event was moderated by Major General ANM Muniruzzaman, NDC, PSC (Retd), President, BIPSS, said a press release.

In his opening remarks, Maj Gen ANM Muniruzzaman (Retd) said that the role of media in national security is multifaceted and essential. It acts as a symbol of truth, agent of accountability and protector of public interest. He said that, as citizens, it is our duty to take news seriously, demand accuracy and integrity, and support a media that upholds the values ​​that define our nation. And as media continues to evolve in this digital age, we must remember that its impact on national security will be indelible, shaping the security of our nation. National security means not only protecting the territorial boundary of the state, but also protecting the core values ​​of the state.
