According to the DownDetector website, Facebook reported that about 500,000 users were down at 10:30 am US East Coast time (1530 GMT). Instagram reached nearly 70,000 reports at the same time.
Threads, Twitter's rival, which launched in 2023, also suffered from reports of outages, although WhatsApp, Meta's messaging service, seemed to be spared.
Facebook's status page for advertisers said the site was experiencing “major disruptions” and that “engineering teams are actively trying to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”
