The government has fixed the minimum fare for the entire route from Uttara to Motijheel at Rs 20 and Rs 100. The fare from Uttara North station to Agargaon station has been fixed at Rs 60, the part of which will be inaugurated in the first phase.

The fare for both Uttara North to Uttara Kendra and Uttara Dakshin stations has been fixed at Rs 20. The fare for Pallabi and Mirpur-11 from Uttara Dakshin (first station) has been fixed at Rs 30, Mirpur-10 and Kajipara at Rs 40. And Shevrapara 50 rupees.

The minimum bus-minibus fare in Dhaka is currently Rs 10. Those traveling short distances of 2-3 km will be charged a little more at Rs 10. Metro Rail will be affordable for those who use rickshaws, CNG-run auto-rickshaws or ride-sharing vehicles.

Autorickshaws run on CNG usually charge Rs 150 even for short distances and the minimum fare for a rickshaw is as low as Rs 20. The air-conditioned metro rail will provide a more comfortable journey.

10% discount will be given on paying the fare through smart card. DMTCL sources said weekly, monthly and family cards have to be bought in advance. The card can also be recharged at machines at every metro rail station. Passengers have to punch a card to open the door while entering the platform. Then while getting down, the card will have to be used again, otherwise the passenger will not be able to get out.

Another temporary card will be given during each journey. Passengers will have to collect this card from the station after paying the fare to reach their destination. It is also like a smart card. If a passenger travels more than what is paid for, the door will not open with that card. In such a situation, the passenger will have to pay extra fare to the staff present at the station to go out.

There will be two ticket counters – one for persons with disabilities and the other for the general public.

Suman Rehman, a resident of Shevrapara, earlier told ALO that her difficulties have reduced with the completion of the construction work of the metro rail. He said that he is waiting for the route to be fully operational.

“The opening of the road to Agargaon will not benefit me much as my office is in Motijheel. I am waiting for the metro rail to be inaugurated till that station.
