According to a recent study, normalizing mindfulness practices can improve a graduate student’s emotional well-being. The study was published in the journal ‘Plos One’.

“Because of the state of graduate student mental health nationally, there is a tangible need for concrete interventions like this,” says Susan Hagness, professor of electrical and computer engineering and one of the study’s co-authors.

“How do we help our students develop the resilience and a really strong toolbox to thrive in both professional and personal environments where there is inevitably going to be stress? We are getting the word out that self Investing in caring is important, and it is common.”

Formed through practices such as meditation, yoga or prayer, mindfulness is centered around being in the present moment in an open, non-judgmental, inquisitive, accepting way.

In recent years, corporate giants such as Google, Intel, Nike, General Mills, Target and others have incorporated meditation into employee development activities to reduce employee stress and burnout and increase their focus, creativity, job satisfaction and well-being. Have done
