Miscreants opened fire targeting BNP leader in Cox’s Bazar Court, colleague shot

The miscreants opened fire targeting the BNP leader who had come to appear in the Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judge Court. Although the BNP leader escaped unharmed, one of his associates, Mainuddin, 37, was shot. The incident occurred today Sunday morning at around 11:00 am.

According to eyewitnesses and police, rivals opened fire targeting Liaquat Ali, general secretary of Jhilongja Union BNP, in Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila. He is also a former UP member of ward no. 4. People accompanying Liaquat, of the same association, detained a man named Ziaul Haq Zia, 34, in connection with the incident. Later he was handed over to the police. A foreign made pistol, two magazines and four bullets were recovered from him.

Speaking to Prothom Alo, Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station in-charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammed Ali said security has been tightened at the court complex. He said former UP member Liaquat Ali was attacked by rivals due to past enmity.

On the evening of October 5, 2025, the criminals had gone to the house of Liaquat Ali in Muhurripara (BSCIC area) of Jhilongja Union and injured him through bullets and hacking attacks. This morning, Liaquat Ali and several others came to the District and Sessions Judge court to attend the hearing of a case. After the hearing, around 11:00 in the morning, Liaquat was waiting for the vehicle to return home, when suddenly several armed men started firing bullets targeting him.
