Mob violence: non-punishment means support

1 minute, 0 seconds Read

The attacks are taking place due to instigation of some religious leaders, support of some powerful groups and inaction of law enforcement agencies.

Attacks were planned in Shahbag and Kushtia. These incidents happened when the present government was in power, hence the responsibility lies with it. The government should have given a clear message against such mob terrorism through the police and administrative machinery. The police remained inactive and did not take action during the attack in Shahbag. This shows that there is no clear instruction to the police to stop such incidents.

Even in Kushtia, no strict attitude of the police was seen. These attacks did not happen suddenly. If intelligence agencies had been active, such plans would have been detected. The groups responsible for this type of mob violence can be identified; They have attacked before also. During the period of the interim government, shrines were vandalized and Baul gatherings were attacked. Therefore, the police should have been alert about these groups. The government should investigate past incidents and take action by publishing a white paper. Repetition of such incidents occurs due to lack of justice. If there is no accountability then it will be understood that the government supports them.
