With final vote counting still underway, the Election Commission of India said on Sunday evening that the BJP has won or is leading in 163 of the 230 state assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh.
In Rajasthan, BJP won 115 seats and lead in the 199-member assembly and the party was set to bag 54 out of 90 seats in Chhattisgarh.
“Today’s victory is historic, unprecedented,” Modi said in a victory speech at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Sunday.
“I salute the people for their support. This is for good governance and our politics of developed India,” he said.
The states won by the BJP have about 190 million voters and elect dozens of members to the national parliament.
