BNP General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said, “There has been firing on St. Martin Island from Myanmar, yet the government is silent. A Myanmar warship was also seen in St. Martin. This is a serious threat to Bangladesh's sovereignty. We feel that this government is a weak government, it does not have the mandate of the people, it is a subservient government. This government is dependent on foreign forces and hence it does not have the courage to speak.”
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was speaking to reporters at his home in Kalibari, Thakurgaon at around 1.30pm on Sunday. In response to a question, Mirza Fakhrul said, “It is the government's decision whether it will deploy the army in St. Martin or not. But how can they be expected to deploy the army where they have not issued a single statement?”
