“About 25 people went missing. We haven’t got a detailed list because it is difficult to reach here,” a rescue worker told AFP from the scene on condition of anonymity.
He described how a massive mound of earth around 150–180 m (500–600 ft) high caused by mining excavations became loose and collapsed due to heavy rains.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing, he said, but some crews have already returned to the scene in the hope of finding Jade.
“We have not found any body yet,” he said. Another rescue worker confirmed to AFP that efforts were on to rescue people despite fears of a secondary landslide.
