The traditional harvest festival called ‘Nabanna Utsab’ will be celebrated across the country on November 15, the first day of Agrahayan of Bangla calendar.
Jatiya Nabanna Utsab Utjapan Parshad, a national committee for the festival celebration, will arrange a day-long cultural programme on Dhaka University’s fine arts faculty campus widely known as Charukala in city on the day.
The celebration programme will include music, dance, recitation, traditional games and discussion.
It will begin at 7:00 in the morning with the sound of traditional instruments, including banshi and dotara.
The auspicious start will be followed by a discussion on the history and importance of Nabanna in Bengali culture.
Veteran journalist and litterateur Faiz Ahmed will inaugurate the festival. Committee chair Laila Hasan, convenor Shahriar Salam and dean of fine arts faculty Motlub Ali will take part in the discussion.
The organisers will bring out a rally called ‘Shobhajatra’ from Charukala at 9:00 in the morning.
The programme will resume at 3:00pm and will continue till 9:00pm.
More than thirty cultural organisations, including Udichi, Rabindra Sangeet Sammilin Prishad, Drubatan, Alor Bhuban, Swabhumi, Kranti, Khelaghar, Nrityanandan, Sukanya, Dibya and Nataraj will participate in the celebration.
Noted artistes Bashwar Bandapadhyaya, Laila Afroz, Shahadat Hossain Nipu, Rafiqul Islam and Jharna Sarkar, among others, will recite poems at the programme.
Committee convenor Shahriar Salam told Banglanews24.com that the urban people would get chance to celebrate the traditional festival in city.
