National Citizen Party (NCP) convenor Naheed Islam has called on former advisers, including Professor Muhammad Yunus and former law adviser Asif Nazrul, to take to the streets to ensure the implementation of the reforms.

“We gave them power with the blood of the people, but they have let us down. However, they too will have to come out on the streets to save whatever has been achieved,” he said.

He made these comments while talking to journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka after returning from Umrah.

Nahid Islam, who is also the opposition chief whip in the national parliament, said that after securing two-thirds majority in the elections, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is ignoring everything. He alleged that they are not accepting the referendum decision, are making new excuses and presenting various types of proposals. Of the important ordinances, 10 to 11 are not being brought in the Parliament, which means they will not be able to be converted into law. He claimed that through this, the BNP government wants to retain the previous authoritarian system where the executive power remains absolute.
