It was rumored that Shakib’s name was proposed as the new ODI captain but Nazmul dismissed it. But Najmul termed this rumor as completely baseless and said, “I had never heard anything like this before now. Every day I said that Tamim will be our captain till the World Cup. Then why would someone else’s name be proposed as captain?”
Earlier last month, after the first ODI of the home series against Afghanistan, Tamim had announced his retirement from international cricket. He reversed his decision the very next day after a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
