Narcotics investigation failures: Uncovering the truth behind the acquittals

The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) had arrested a drug dealer, Tarek Mehmood, two years ago. The organization identified him as the leader of a deadly ice trading gang. But due to lack of necessary witnesses and evidence, he was acquitted by the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on 6 March.

According to the statement of the case, Tarek Mahmood was arrested on 9 September 2021 from a flat on the second floor of a building in Baridhara, Dhaka. At that time, five grams of ice was also recovered from his room. According to this confession, 100 Yaba tablets were recovered from a car parked in the garage. DNC sub-inspector (SI) Sajjad Hussain registered a case in this regard at Gulshan police station.

How can a person who is, in the eyes of the Narcotics Control Department, the leader of the dreaded ice gang, go free? What is the secret behind this?
