He further said that when prices of essential commodities increase, the government tries to control the prices through the National Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection.
But he said they do not have enough people in the workforce and hence it is not possible to ensure 100 per cent surveillance.
The minister cited the example of neighboring Sri Lanka, which has bounced back from the economic crisis and successfully controlled price inflation. He was asked that if Sri Lanka could do it then why not Bangladesh.
Tipu Munshi replied, “The situation in Sri Lanka and ours is different. Tourism is a major source of their economy, which they have successfully revived. Our country is big, there are many problems, but we are continuously trying.
Quoting the Prime Minister, the minister said, “The Prime Minister himself has said, in this situation we need to be frugal.”
