The Home Minister further said, “During his tenure as President, including the last period of authoritarian rule, during the entire tenure of the interim government and under the present political government, he performed his duties in accordance with the law and the Constitution. We got the cooperation of the President. Under the Constitution, he enjoys constitutional privileges and immunity. No criminal or other legal case can be filed against him in court until the immunity is invoked. Moreover, anyone is free to express his views. They can do that, but I don’t think so.” There doesn’t seem to be anything that warrants serious consideration.”
Asked about the allegations against Mohammad Shahabuddin before he became President, the minister said, “If there were any allegations against him at that time, they are of the same period. The case will proceed as per law.”
Referring to Mohammad Shahabuddin, the Home Minister said that he will get all the benefits that a former President gets under the law. They will also receive security protection for six months from the Special Security Forces (SSF), President Guard Regiment (PGR) and other related facilities along with police and other security support.
