Speaking during the hunger strike, BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas said, “We have applied for Khaleda Zia’s release and her treatment abroad. We discussed this. nothing has happened.”
He alleged that Khaleda Zia has been arrested with the intention of killing her. He said, if he is sent abroad, it will be revealed that he is being given slow poison and that is why the government is not ready to release him.
BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said, ‘Khaleda Zia is being deprived of her fundamental rights. We have come to the end of the road. Now the fight is for survival.”
Expressing solidarity with the demands of the hunger strike, Zonaid Saki, chief coordinator of the Ganosamhati Movement, said, “I went to meet Khaleda Zia in the hospital. His doctors said he needed to be flown abroad for necessary treatment. The government is citing various laws regarding his release. The people of Bangladesh understand everything. If Khaleda Zia dies due to their retaliation and denial of proper medical treatment then the government will have to take responsibility.
