‘Poor Things’, a surreal dark comedy, came in second place with 11 awards, including the best film category and Emma Stone’s portrayal of a Victorian reanimated corpse with the brain of an infant.
The American actress has already bagged the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Best Actress awards for her impeccable acting.
She will compete against Margot Robbie (Barbie), Carey Mulligan (Maestro), Sandra Huller (Anatomy of a Fall), Fantasia Barrino (The Color Purple) and Vivian Oprah (Rye Lane).
Apart from ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Poor Things’, other Best Picture contenders include French courtroom drama ‘Anatomy of a Fall’, 1970s preschool comedy ‘The Holdovers’ and Martin Scorsese’s ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ .
Scorsese and his historical epic leading man Leonardo DiCaprio both missed out on BAFTA awards, but the film received a total of nine nominations.
