State media reported on Tuesday that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un criticized top officials for their “irresponsible” response to flood damage, saying they have “damaged” the national economy.
News agency KCNA said Kim inspected a tidal land on the west coast on Monday after recent seawater eroded a dike with an inadequate drainage system, destroying 560 hectares, including more than 270 hectares of rice fields. More than 10,000 lands were flooded.
Reprimanding the officials for “very irresponsible” neglect of duties, Kim blamed cabinet chief Kim Tok Hun for inspecting the destroyed site once or twice “with the attitude of a spectator”.
