Now Bangladeshi actresses are becoming victims of deepfakes, how to detect these videos?

From Natalie Portman, Hollywood’s Emma Watson, Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Bollywood’s Rashmika Mandanna to Dhallywood’s Tanzin Tisha, the majority of deepfake victims around the world are actually women.

Several documentaries based on deepfake pornography, including ‘My Blonde GF’ and ‘Another Body’, have depicted the horrific experiences women face.

A report by research organization Sensity AI published in 2019 said that 99 percent of deepfake videos created worldwide are ultimately of women. And 96 percent of these deepfake videos were created without their consent.

Professor Claire McGlynn has been working on sexual violence and cyber bullying for a long time. “Deepfake pornography is being used as a weapon to harass women,” she told Prothom Alo. The pornography industry is basically designed for men. As a result, women have become the targets of deepfakes.

As Claire McGlynn explains the reason for targeting women, “Society does not have a good record of taking crimes against women seriously, and this is also the case with deepfake porn. “Online abuse is often minimized and trivialized.”
