Obstruction in organizing BNP: restraint is expected from all in Ramadan

The BNP on Saturday announced a two-hour (2:00 to 4:00) dharna program in each thana-upazila of major cities.

The Awami League did not have any centrally scheduled program on that day, yet Awami League leaders-activists held ‘peace rallies’ at many places, leading to chaos.

The BNP claims that they failed to organize sit-in programs in seven police stations of the capital due to attacks by people from the ruling party and police intervention.

Outside Dhaka, there were attacks and clashes in Jashore’s Sharsha, Laxmipur’s Ramganj, Madaripur’s Dasar, Feni’s Daganbhuiyan, Bhola’s Monpura, Natour, Patuakhali’s Mirzaganj and Bogura’s Sherpur. Apart from this, BNP could not conduct its program at some places due to police interference.

On the issue of obstructing the program of BNP, the leaders and workers of Awami League have expressed concern, fearing ‘violence’.
