Police have recovered the body of a businessman with his limbs tied and a cloth covering his face from a house in Old Dhaka’s Bagdasa Lane.

Lalbagh Division of Police Deputy Commissioner (DC) Talebur Rahman gave information about the recovery in the Bangshal Police Station area on Tuesday.

The dead has been identified as 50-year-old Nesar Ali. He was a cloth trader.

Calling it a “murder”, Talebur said: “The businessman lived alone in the one-room rented house.”

Police are investigating it, he added.

Bangshal Police’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Wahab said the man lived in a room on the first floor of a five-storey building.

The owner of the house, Mohammad Hossain Babu, saw the lights on inside his home around 1pm on Tuesday and called out to him.

Receiving no response, he removed the curtain from outside the house and saw Nisar with his limbs tied. Later, he called 999.

Wahab said police entered the home by breaking down the door after receiving information.

He believes the unknown suspects tied up the man and suffocated him to death sometime between 11pm on Monday and 1pm on Tuesday.

Nesar hailed from the Sharsha Upazila of Jashore. Three months ago, he moved to Nayabazar alone.

His family told police that he used to live there for business in Islampur.
