Party sources said a leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was killed in Panchagad as the police and party men were concentrating the public rally.
Party sources said the victim, Rashid Arefin (50), was the joint convenor of BNP’s Maydandighi union in Boda upazila.
At least 50 people, including policemen, were injured in the clashes that took place on Saturday afternoon. The injured are being treated at Panchgarh Sadar Hospital. The body of the slain BNP leader has been kept in the mortuary of the hospital. Police detained 10 people from the spot.
