Following the sudden price drop at the production level, the retail price of onion has fallen by at least Tk 30 in Dhaka's kitchen markets.
There was a huge surge in onion prices even before Ramzan, prompting the authorities to take a special initiative to keep the market under control through import of Indian varieties.
Through conversations with traders in Malibagh, Moghbazar, Caravan Bazaar and Shyambazar Rasoi markets of Dhaka, it was revealed that the supply of onion is now abundant as the Hali variety of onion has recently started arriving in the markets.
