The allegations of repression and oppression made by BNP against the government are not false. Abducting a son in the absence of the father, or arresting the father in the absence of the son, is a gross violation of human rights. We strongly oppose such actions of law enforcement agencies. We also say that BNP should be more realistic in its movement programmes.
They should abandon programs that have no clear public support or come up with alternative programs. Most importantly, if there is any sabotage related to their programs, the responsibility falls on their shoulders. It should be kept in mind that when buses and trucks are set on fire, not only the common people are harmed, the economy is also harmed. The government will not fall like this.
Meanwhile, the government should not smell any conspiracy in the opposition’s programs and instead ensure effective rule of law. It will have to move away from the suicidal path of shrinking democracy. If the opposition is not allowed to carry out its programs normally, politics will take an unusual turn. They should keep in mind that silencing the opposition and torturing and suppressing them is tantamount to moving away from the rule of law and the democratic path. Is this what the government wants?
It was important for political parties to create an understanding or consensus before the elections. Then we could have free and fair elections involving everyone. Unfortunately this did not happen.
