Oxfam report: Revealing the gender dimension of disaster loss and damage in Asia

Minister of State for Disaster Management Inamur Rehman said, “After the floods and cyclones, we provide assistance keeping in mind and giving importance to the needs of women. However, as disasters are increasing, we need more money from the Climate Damage Fund. Support will be required. The international community should come forward for this.

During floods, male workers often migrate to other areas in search of better job opportunities, and in many cases, they are successful. However, women burdened with caring for children and the elderly find it challenging to leave their families for work or other urgent needs.

In flood and cyclone-prone areas, about 68 percent of people migrate to different parts of the country when disasters strike, while 32 percent seek employment abroad, the majority of whom are men. Of the women who go abroad, 60 percent work as domestic servants in Middle Eastern countries for short periods.
