Pakistan declares mourning day for President Raisi after helicopter crash

After Iranian media reported that President Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared a day of mourning.

“In honor of President Raisi and his comrades and in solidarity with brotherly Iran, Pakistan will observe the day of mourning and the flag will fly at half mast,” Shehbaz, formerly of X, posted on Twitter.

“I join the government and people of Pakistan in expressing my deepest condolences and sympathies to the Iranian nation on this terrible loss,” he said.

“The great Iranian nation will overcome this tragedy with traditional courage.”

The Pakistani leader hosted Raisi in Islamabad for a three-day visit in April to improve ties between the neighbors after deadly attacks earlier this year.
