He said Pakistan’s capital Islamabad would welcome delegations from both countries on Friday for talks with the aim of reaching a “conclusive agreement”.

“We are confident that the ‘Islamabad talks’ will be successful in achieving lasting peace and we look forward to sharing more good news in the coming days,” he said.

Barely an hour before President Donald Trump’s deadline to denuclearize Iran expired, both Tehran and Washington announced they had agreed to a two-week ceasefire.

Pakistan, which has enjoyed close ties with Trump and is sensitive to developments in neighboring Iran, has emerged in recent weeks as a conduit for messaging between Tehran and Washington.
