“As a conscientious person, I declare that the PTI-backed candidate has won and I will not take advantage of that seat,” Rehman said at a press conference on Monday.
“I will not accept any additional votes given to me.”
PTI praised the move on social media.
“This will give strength to many others who were forced by the (regime) to take a fake mandate,” the party’s ex, X, said on Twitter.
JI and PTI later said they were working on a possible alliance.
Dozens of petitions have already been filed by the losing candidates, claiming that their victory was snatched away by vote rigging or manipulation of the count.
However, Rahman is the only case of a winner alleging that his or her victory was rigged.
