State Minister for ICT Division Junaid Ahmed Palak urged the social networking giant Facebook to set up a R&D (Research and Development) and training center in Bangladesh.
He made the call when a delegation led by him visited the Facebook headquarters at Silicon Valley on Saturday.
He said if established the Facebook office in the country will be helpful for the youths.
An estimated 7.6 million Bangladeshis use Facebook, according to the ICT industry insiders and the number is rapidly growing thanks to the expansion of internet connection mainly by the mobile phone operators. The number of Internet connection reached nearly 37.00 million till April this year.
President of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) Shamim Ahsan, in a Facebook page posting, said “We’ve had a fruitful meeting with Facebook senior directors at their headquarters and urged them to set up a R & D and Training center in Bangladesh for our youths.”
In a statement, the Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) on Saturday quoted the State Minister as saying that the government will open the online payment gateway if the Facebook authority starts its official activities in the country.
