Paul Kapoor arrives in Dhaka to strengthen Bangladesh-US strategic ties

US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapoor arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday night with an aim to further strengthen Washington-Dhaka strategic ties.

He went from Delhi to Dhaka on a three-day visit.

Diplomatic sources from both countries told Prothom Alo that Paul Kapoor reached Dhaka after 8 pm local time.

This is his first visit to Bangladesh since taking over as Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs in October, succeeding Donald Lu.

According to the draft programme, Paul Kapoor will hold talks with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rehman, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood and Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir on Wednesday morning.

In the evening he will exchange views with a business delegation at an event organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh and attend a dinner organized in connection with his visit.
