The construction of the second phase from Banani Railway Station to Moghbazar Railway Crossing is going on at a fast pace.
Over the past 15 years, many infrastructure projects have been initiated in Bangladesh. Considering the size, budget and economic impact, many of these projects have been termed mega-projects.
The government has also identified some of them as fast-track projects. These include Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Bangladesh’s first metro rail project MRT Line-6 and Chandra-Elenga four-lane highway was completed.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel, South Asia’s first and longest underwater road tunnel, is expected to be ready for traffic soon.
Other projects – Padma Bridge Rail Link, Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Rail Link, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Matarbari 1200 MW coal based power plant, Pera deep sea port, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Railway Bridge over Jamuna River are of utmost importance. Economic growth of the country and hence now the main focus of the government is to complete them on time.
After the Awami League government came to power in 2009, it launched a number of significant development projects with a view to transforming the country’s communications, transport and electricity infrastructure.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government has introduced a modern transport system in the country by opening the Dhaka Metro Rail and Padma Multipurpose Bridge and other mega projects.
