PM Hasina urges Rosatom to set up another nuclear power plant in Rooppur

He said that around 2500 employees including Bangladeshis and Russians are working in this project who have acquired their expertise.

The Prime Minister asked the Director General of Rosatom to utilize Bangladeshi expertise in nuclear power plant construction projects in different countries.

Alexey Likhachev said that there were obstacles due to the pandemic and restrictions, but the work was carried out at a normal pace.

The Prime Minister said that technically the obstacles were avoided.

Minister for Science and Technology Architect Yefesh Osman, Principal Secretary to PM M Tofazel Hossain Mia and Secretary for Science and Technology Mohammad Ali Hossain were present, among others.

At present the construction work of two units of 1200 MW capacity (1200 x 2 = 2400 MW) is in the final stage in the RNPP area.

Physical start-up of the first unit will begin in December this year, while commercial power generation from Unit-1 and Unit-2 will commence in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
