Police allegedly picked up an independent candidate from his residence at midnight, kept him in the police station for two hours and pressured him not to contest the upcoming 12th parliamentary elections.

The incident took place in Dinajpur Sadar upazila under Dinajpur-3 constituency in the early hours of Thursday, while the candidate is Awami League’s Sadar upazila unit general secretary Vishwajit Ghosh alias Kanchan.

Meanwhile, Jubo League Dinajpur district unit president Rashed Parvez alleged that he has received threats for not submitting his nomination papers.
