Law enforcement sources said fugitive Sajjad was demanding huge sums of money from Smart Group. When the demands were not met, he first ordered firing on Mustafizur Rahman’s house on January 1 this year, during which the window glasses of the house were broken. A second shooting occurred two months later.
Mobarak Hussain, also known as Emon, is from Kanchananagar area of Fatikchhari and is the son of Mohammad Musa. He is accused in seven cases including double murder and murder of Dhakaiya Akbar. Police said some of the photographs contained evidence that he was carrying 15-20 firearms. He had allegedly arranged for gunmen and motorcycles to be used in the double murder. Borhan faces eight cases related to extortion, weapons and murder.
Chattogram District Bar Association president Abdus Sattar said the failure to arrest two high-profile criminals reflected shortcomings in police intelligence surveillance. He told Prothom Alo that it is the responsibility of the police to catch such criminals. Since he has got bail, the prosecution can now take necessary steps.
When asked, government lawyer Mofizul Haq Bhuiyan of Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court told Prothom Alo that the state will take appropriate action in this regard.
