A violent brawl that broke out in the lower bowl of Oracle Park during the San Francisco Giants’ game Thursday night ended with seven people detained and four arrested, according to police.
The altercation broke out around 9:46 p.m. during the Giants’ game against the Colorado Rockies. San Francisco police officers who were working the game responded to reports of a fight involving multiple people. Officers detained all seven people involved.
Police said their preliminary investigation found the confrontation began as a verbal dispute before turning physical. Videos posted on social media showed several fans exchanging punches in the lower bowl seating area while spectators nearby tried to intervene.
One video, which lasts nearly a minute, appears to show an Oracle Park usher helping separate those involved.
Those arrested were Major Norton, 29, of Suisun City, on suspicion of assault likely to produce great bodily injury, disturbing the peace and public intoxication; Jaylynn Del Toro, 21, of Fresno; Elijah Ortega-Garcia, 23, of Selma (Fresno County); and Gisselle Lopez, 26, of Vallejo, each on suspicion of disturbing the peace and public intoxication. All four were booked into San Francisco County Jail, police said.
Police also cited and released Demetrius Stovall, 26, of San Leandro, on suspicion of disturbing the peace and public intoxication; and Meahanni Norton, 25, of Suisun City; and Arianna Gonzales, 22, of Fresno, each on suspicion of disturbing the peace.
In a statement Friday, a Giants spokesperson said arrests were made after stadium security contacted police assigned to the ballpark. No Giants personnel or stadium workers were harmed.
The team said everyone involved will be banned from Oracle Park. The Giants also say proper security procedures were followed in responding to the incident.
