Rizvi had said before his arrest that around 2,000 BNP leaders and workers were trapped in the office and many of them fell ill after the struggle, but the police were not allowing them to leave the building.
Tension prevails in Dhaka over the upcoming rally of the party. On Wednesday, party workers started gathering at the central offices.
Eyewitnesses said the activists blocked the road in front of the party offices, raising slogans. Police personnel were also deployed on the surrounding roads. Around 3 in the afternoon, there was a fight between the two sides.
When the police charged them, the BNP workers started throwing bricks and stones. The police then fired rubber bullets and tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
One person injured in the fight has died. Several injured people were brought to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital from Naya Paltan area after the clash.
