Ali Ahmed’s wife Shamsunhar told Prothom Aalo over the phone that the police picked up her husband without giving any reason. He only said that the officer-in-charge (OC) wanted to talk to him.
“I told the policemen why he was being taken away on this cold night. He (Ali Ahmed) would have met him (himself) if he had been called on the phone,” Shamsunhar said, adding that they reached Magura around 9:00 pm after performing Umrah in Saudi Arabia and went to bed early.
Akhtar Hussain’s son Ikramul Kabir said the police went to his residence around 1:30 pm and arrested his father in a case registered for subversive activities. When Ikramul demanded an arrest or search warrant, the police said, “Don’t bother, and then we will have to face the trouble.”
Ikramul Kabir said that before leaving he also searched the residence.
Mustafizur Rahman, the officer-in-charge of the Magra Sadar police station, confirmed that he was taken into custody, but refused to mention any reasons or reasons behind it.
