Workers of several garment factories in the Bhogara bypass area of Ghazipur on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway have been protesting for the past few days demanding increase in wages.
When workers attempted to block the highway on Thursday morning, police responded by firing sonic grenades and tear gas shells to disperse them.
The protest first started around 8:30 am on Thursday with workers of TM Fashion Limited in Bypass area of Ghazipur. Subsequently, workers from other factories, including Belmond Garments, Brothers Fashion Limited and Rua Fashion Limited, joined them, and stood in front of the factories to raise their wage hike demands.
